As some of you might remember, we sponsored a new recumbent race last October as part of the Overdrive race weekend at the Canadian Motor Sport Park (once known as ‘Mosport’) grand prix track, near Toronto, Ontario.

This was a big deal for Canadian recumbent riders and hand cyclists – a new race just for us here in Canada.

Well, not only will the recumbent race happen again in October 2017 (and we’ll talk more about that in the near future) but they’ve added a new event to their calendar at the race track – and best of all, it’s open to recumbents!

On June 10 and 11, they are going to be running a 6hr and 12hr overnight endurance race, on the track. While it’s not far away, there is still time to register – all of the information is on their website.

Overdrive - race pictureIt’s a non-drafting endurance race on the grand prix race circuit, from 6:00pm on Saturday to 6:00am on the Sunday. You can enter as a solo rider or as part of a team of two, four or eight riders.

They have also added a new option – “Test Ride’. If you’d just like to ride the track and don’t want to race for 6 or 12 hrs, you can do so between 7:00pm and 9:00pm on the Saturday.

Even in the short time it’s been running, the October race weekend has already secured enough credibility that they are able to offer four qualifying spots for the ITU world duathlon championships in Denmark 2018 as prizes in the duathlons on the Saturday in October. They’ve also featured in Canadian Cyclist‘s daily news recently.

We’ve been so impressed with the Overdrive team and the hard work they are putting into establishing these events in the cycling calendar here in Ontario, especially since their doors are open to recumbents.

The track venue is amazing, indoors and out, and we’re really rooting for the long-term success of Overdrive’s race calendar. We’ll be supporting the October weekend again, but can’t make this new addition in June which is a great pity. However, we look forward to hearing about it and hopefully that includes some recumbents taking part.

See you in October…
